Why the secret to dramatic photos isn't taught!

After a decade of work, I was awarded the title of Master of Photography from PPA. The other Masters said that is just the start. So I kept going. But you're going to skip so much of that and find your own talent and style faster than I did. 

I'm a Shadow Hunter, YouTuber, and host of the Pro Photo Podcast. But mostly, I take photos. I learned from legendary old-school portrait masters like Ken Whitmire and landscape masters like Rodney Lough, and from decades of trial and error. 

None of them taught Shadow Hacking, which is why this took so long. But you won't have that problem. I don't care if you photograph weddings, fashion, streets, or nature. No matter how little or how much experience you have, photos need soul, and Shadow hacking gives you more of it.

In trying to find a better way. One day I went to my mentor and said.... "I want that big film camera."
Instead, he gave me a 4x5 film holder and said.

"Go to the bathroom, no camera."

Light, movement, shadow -- Rembrandt knew it; photography forgot it.

I came back to my mentor, the legendary Whitmore, and said....

Ken laughed because, to him, it was normal. The man who had given me only the film holders for a 4x5 camera and told me to go sit in the bathroom with the film and go from there.

I did what Ken said, and it changed my career. But I'll finish that story on class day.
