  1. This was the best episode! What a great mix of guests! Bought four from your list of recommendations! You need to get a spif for your recommendations!

Having trouble finding the Kiss albums you mentioned. Search keeps going to the Rock group. Can you post that link for me?

  2. Great show. Good marketing information and lots of other interesting stuff.

I am wondering how the economy will effect high dollar wedding photogs. If 2009 holds out to be as bad a projected I think we will be seeing economic situations that most of us have never seen. I hope that is not the case but if trends continue there will be a trickle down effect that could put pressure on even those who currently can pay $20K for a wedding photographer.

  3. Gavin,
I thought the show portion of the episode was fine with its reviews of certain products. It gave a good warp-up of this year’s offerings as well as what’s to come in 2009.
What I thought was the best (and I would say one of the best segments of PPS overall) happened in the post-show segment. The insight of Kevin Swan on the business side of photography was excellent. It gave me some ideas to consider as well as affirmed decision I’ve already made about my business. Try to give the listeners this type of segment every now and again as I think it helps us be better photographers all around.
Merry Christmas and I look forward to more PPS in the new year. Take care.

  4. Thanks for the podcast Gavin. As always, lots of stuff to check out and dream about getting :). I am going to check out the trial of slideshow pro. Can’t beat the price on that one and I like that it integrates with LR. I have been using SimpleViewer for slides on my WordPress blog. There is a plugin called wp-simpleviewer that makes it real easy to create slideshows from directories. Looks like slideshow pro has some more cool features, SimpleViewer is free, but has some limitations.

Thanks for all of your hard work. Hope 2009 brings lots of success!
    Steve

  5. Gavin, The “Wild Christmas Party” was probably the best PPS show ever! You just keep on getting better and better. Hey, I went to newschoolphoto.com and looked for Kevin’s training video on using Adobe Indesign to create albums and could not locate it. Could you please point me in the right direction? Thank you. Best wishes and continued success to you! Gary R.

  6. Gavin, you have your own style (which is nice and informal) but it takes you 100 years to get a question out. And constantly injecting “right, right” “mmm, hmmm” “cool” makes you sound like a total amateur. Just slow down a little and let the guest say their answers.

It will make it a much more pleasurable experience for the listener.

About the Author

Glad you're here.

I'm from WA State USA and started studying photography in 97. I started work as a pro (using that word loosely because I sucked) using film at age 16. I learned fast but was not as easy to find training then. Sometimes I beat my head against the wall until I figured stuff out.

As digital dawned I went all in and got to study with masters like Ken Whitmire. In 09 I founded the Pro Photo Show podcast. I started promoting tone-focused editing. When Lightroom arrived, I started developing tools to make editing and workflow better.

20 years of study and photography around the country earned me a Master of Photography (M.Photog) from PPA. I got to see my workshops and tools featured in publications across the industry. Once I even won the prestigious HotOne award for my "EXposed" light and tone workshop.

Wanting something calmer, I moved to Mexico in 2017. It's a land of magical light. I'm here now exploring light and trying to master my weak areas. I make videos of that for my Youtube channel, sharing what I learn. I hope you'll stick around and be part of Light Hunters Tribe... Gavin
