Icons of Photography

Hey gang…

Just wanted to pass along a cool Web site I came across.

Granted, it’s an advertisement, but Kingston has done a really good job of highlighting some rather cool photographers.

I’ve learned something and been inspired – not bad for an ad!

Check it out

  1. It is always refreshing when a brand actually puts out content that inspires rather than just pushes a product. Like you said, learning something from an ad is pretty rare these days!

I usually only associate Kingston with the dry, hardware side of things. I’ve been buried in my home lab all week trying to configure a new 6-port network expansion module https://serverorbit.com/network-devices/network-expansion-modules/6-port-en to better handle traffic for my media server, so my brain has been stuck on bandwidth and throughput numbers. It is a nice change of pace to be reminded of the actual art and creativity that fills up all that storage we work so hard to maintain.

It really puts the "tech" aspect into perspective when you see the end results like that. Did any specific photographer from their feature stand out to you, or was it just the general vibe of the campaign that grabbed you?

About the Author

Glad you're here.

I'm from WA State USA and started studying photography in 97. I started work as a pro (using that word loosely because I sucked) using film at age 16. I learned fast but was not as easy to find training then. Sometimes I beat my head against the wall until I figured stuff out.

As digital dawned I went all in and got to study with masters like Ken Whitmire. In 09 I founded the Pro Photo Show podcast. I started promoting tone-focused editing. When Lightroom arrived, I started developing tools to make editing and workflow better.

20 years of study and photography around the country earned me a Master of Photography (M.Photog) from PPA. I got to see my workshops and tools featured in publications across the industry. Once I even won the prestigious HotOne award for my "EXposed" light and tone workshop.

Wanting something calmer, I moved to Mexico in 2017. It's a land of magical light. I'm here now exploring light and trying to master my weak areas. I make videos of that for my Youtube channel, sharing what I learn. I hope you'll stick around and be part of Light Hunters Tribe... Gavin
