The facts are not yet in, but with D3 rumors floating in the winds, it seems that Engadget recently got some information from an newspaper editor, who got his information from an unspecified source, that Nikon is preparing a camera that will put Canon to Shame.
Now us Canon fans don’t expect Canon to be blown away anytime soon, but we’ll let you be the judge for now, and if this thing really comes out, then we’ll all know. Hopefully more details will emerge later this month so stay tuned. Click here for the engadget post
Will Nikon kick Canon? Will Canon shoot back? Will other Dslr’s take over the market? … The Saga continues
Put Canon to shame? I’m sorry lads, but you’d have to start from the ground up… Your lenses are horribly slow focusing, and they’ve already invested heavily in the DX so I doubt there will be a full-frame camera anytime soon. If Nikon try matching the 1Ds for resolution in the DX size sensor, it’ll be incredibly noisy… not that Nikons are really clean as it is…
Keep dreaming Nikon lads…
I’m sorry Rob – but it will happen, and Nikon’s optics have always been top notch – next time think before you post Nikon bashing #*#* you Canonite…
Wow! it’s pretty safe to say that photographers are pretty passionate about what brand of gear they use! Even though I am a lifetime Nikon user, I would love to have a Canon set up with one of those big white lenses if I was strictly a sports photography. And I am currently seeing a psychologist to deal with what the professionals call “Full Frame Sensor Envy.”
My point is that if you are a professional photographer, it shouldn’t matter what the brand or model of camera you shoot with but what you produce with it. If you have invested some decent money in pro gear, whether it be Canon or Nikon, you must admit you have some pretty nice gear capable of creating some phenomenal images.
You’re very right Dennis, and it’s what’s behind the lens that REALLY matters…
@ JMac… I didn’t say that Nikon’s glass wasn’t good, it’s just absolutely everything ELSE regarding their lens system that sucks. I’m pretty sure that half of the lenses in every Nikon shooter’s bag still use a little tiny gear to focus 😉 Having said that though, Nikon would definitely be my second choice.
This camera will still be in level (barely) with the 5D / next-gen 5D Mark II. The 5D is the lowest of Canon’s top 3 cameras but unfortunately does not have a 5-7 FPS speed. This camera is barely competing with Canon’s top of the line 1D. The new generation of Canon 1D’s has a 22 MP Sensor, And hopefully 5 fps. It would be cool if Canon could start making MF cameras 58 mm x 42 mm sensors. They could fit them with different lenses, like have an L2 series for the MF.
It always amuses me seeing people arguing over which is better between Canon and Nikon. Both are great, both have their advantages and disadvantages, but most importantly remember that we both suck in comparison to Hasselblad. 😉
@ Mike … How do you define “suck” though? How often do you see people with Hasselblads shooting a Hockey game, or any other sporting event? How often do you see wildlife shooters using them? (Wildlife, not Nature/Landscape). You simply don’t, because they’re not built for that purpose. They, if you will, “suck” at it.
If we’re comparing out and out resolution, and resolving power then certainly a Hasselblad with a P45 back is going to out-resolve a 1Ds, but “suck” is a relative term.
