Canon will be showing some prototypes of upcoming lenses at the Photo Plus Expo in Nov. It seems thy are working on an 200mm F2.0, and and 800mm F5.6. for their EOS SLR systems. That some fast telephoto and we don’t know what they’ll cost, but both of course are L series (this stands for luxury by the way) and with the kind of specs they look to have they wont be cheap.
These aren’t the first of their kind however. Some of you will remember the 1200mm F5.6 that came out in 1993, and was dropped in 2005. It’s in the picture on the left (ya the huge lens is it) and weighed over 35 pounds. It was an amazing piece, but would suck about 90 grand out of your checkbook. We hope that these up coming releases will be a tad more attainable.
They look pretty pretty impressive. Pro shooters know what a difference great glass makes, and it can really pay to get the best.
I would love to get my hands on the 200 f2, altho even with the 135 f2, unless your subject is kinda far away, the focus sometimes has trouble, with such an ultra thing dof.
i’ve used it A LOT with my canon 40d, and two 1d mark II cameras.
I’m hoping that the 135L just doesn’t focus that quick, cause my 200 f2.8 is VERRRRY fast and accurate to focus, as well as my 300 f2.8 which gets even less in focus, but always very sharp. But again those are f2.8 lenses. I hope F2.0 apertures don’t tend to be hard to get into focus (up close, again my 135L is great for a head-to-toe shot in NCAA football on my 40d).
besides NCAA shooting, i do a lot of HS shootings as well. i may sell my 300 f2.8 for the 200 f2 after a lot of reviews are out.
