Canon Rebel XSI announced

The rebel XTI is going out to make room for the new kid on the block, the Canon Rebel XSI (these names are getting old and confusing)

Shipping in April this baby will sport a 12.2 MP sensor, 3″ live view LCD, and 3.5 FPS. Not a bad looking offering for around 8 bills

Interestingly (and maybe bad for some) Canon seems to have phased out Compact Flash on this one. Only SD / SDHC media.

  1. I can say from experience that the pins inside the CF clots for any camera can easily bend…. I placed a 2GB CF card from SanDisk in my Canon about 6 months ago and – without much of ANY force – bent the corner pin inside the camera, thereby requiring major, delicate correction of that pin with a magnifying glass, tiny screwdriver and ALOT of luck.

I am one that is certainly welcoming the non-pin interface of the SD card.

  2. I do agree that SD may be nicer as far as card insertion is concerned. If you are very careful it’s fine and should have no problem. I have a way of inserting the card so it is square with the pins then push it in gently. I just hope Canon does not do this to the pro models.

  3. Nikon has done the same with there “lower-end” DSLR. The D80, D50, D40, and D40x all use SD cards instead of CF. Thankfully my D70 takes CF so when I upgrade to the D300 I wont have to buy new memory. 😀

About the Author

Glad you're here.

I'm from WA State USA and started studying photography in 97. I started work as a pro (using that word loosely because I sucked) using film at age 16. I learned fast but was not as easy to find training then. Sometimes I beat my head against the wall until I figured stuff out.

As digital dawned I went all in and got to study with masters like Ken Whitmire. In 09 I founded the Pro Photo Show podcast. I started promoting tone-focused editing. When Lightroom arrived, I started developing tools to make editing and workflow better.

20 years of study and photography around the country earned me a Master of Photography (M.Photog) from PPA. I got to see my workshops and tools featured in publications across the industry. Once I even won the prestigious HotOne award for my "EXposed" light and tone workshop.

Wanting something calmer, I moved to Mexico in 2017. It's a land of magical light. I'm here now exploring light and trying to master my weak areas. I make videos of that for my Youtube channel, sharing what I learn. I hope you'll stick around and be part of Light Hunters Tribe... Gavin
