  1. Gavin, going on about wanting more megapixels and better image quality lately. Brother, you need to shoot film if you really want to make your landscapes go boom. Most 35mm lenses are hitting their limits at current sensor resolutions, and they’ll only look worse as megapixel counts rise from here.

You can pick up a complete used medium or large-format system for less than a grand and they completely destroy the big-dollar DSLR setups in terms of image quality.

    1. Phil, you’re right. I do plan to start playing with some large format. Though I might disagree on the lenses. I think the current dslr’s have a long way to go before they catch up with the resolution of our lenses.

  2. This is my first time listening to the show and, for the most part, I enjoyed. I do believe, however, that making comments such as “all the bridesmaids are ugly, they stink” is disrespectful of your clients. It also seems contradictory to one of the themes of your shows which is how photographers can get more business, i.e. if I were a potential client and heard you refer to me that way I’d probably go elsewhere. Look, I’m not telling you what to think or say; but if you say you are a professional and want to present yourself as a professional there are certain comments that you should keep in private. No one wants to be insulted (even if they deserve it!). Yes, I know, some might say I’m being overly sensitive; but I imagine that when you solicit clients you don’t use such language. Just my two cents.

    1. Hey Carl, thanks for your input and for listening. This show is really not meant to be listened to by clients (though theoretically it’s possible) we’re discussing inside information geared towards pros and aspiring pros. No disrespect however. Bear in mind the context. We were talking about potential situations that could arise and how to handle them. I was joking about how bad it was to bring up the point of dealing with a problematic session. We were not referring to any of our clients and I don’t think any of us have had such situation. I think you’ll find that when dealing with real problems we’ve have encounter clients we’re more serious.

      Thanks for listening… Gav

  3. In the past month I’ve suddenly discovered podcasts (or decided or actually seek and listen to some) and have been on a bit of a binge of listening to as many as I can find and I though give you a big thumbs up, I’ve been really enjoying yours. There’s always a lot of great content, very relevant, and interesting. You bring in a good variety of topics and I appreciate all the talk on marketing, networking and everything about professional photography beyond the photography itself.

    Cheers
    Mike

  4. I heard on one of the podcast shows during the Picks about a a Black Backdrop that was great for shooting babies. But, I cant find the name. Please help. Thanks great show.

About the Author

Glad you're here.

I'm from WA State USA and started studying photography in 97. I started work as a pro (using that word loosely because I sucked) using film at age 16. I learned fast but was not as easy to find training then. Sometimes I beat my head against the wall until I figured stuff out.

As digital dawned I went all in and got to study with masters like Ken Whitmire. In 09 I founded the Pro Photo Show podcast. I started promoting tone-focused editing. When Lightroom arrived, I started developing tools to make editing and workflow better.

20 years of study and photography around the country earned me a Master of Photography (M.Photog) from PPA. I got to see my workshops and tools featured in publications across the industry. Once I even won the prestigious HotOne award for my "EXposed" light and tone workshop.

Wanting something calmer, I moved to Mexico in 2017. It's a land of magical light. I'm here now exploring light and trying to master my weak areas. I make videos of that for my Youtube channel, sharing what I learn. I hope you'll stick around and be part of Light Hunters Tribe... Gavin
