A lone cowboy rides across the barren dessert atop his faithful sorrel. His silver spurs glisten in the hot afternoon sun as a dry wind rustles through tumbleweeds caught on the countless boulders scattered along the barren landscape. He looks out gloomily from underneath his weathered gray hat for a sign of the life-giving water he seeks. There is none to be found. They trudge onwards.

OK, enough of me trying to write.  I have enough projects on my hands, including a couple books, so I best not get started on another story. Besides that, this is a shot I took yesterday near Ephrata Lake. There was water and greenery not a hundred yards beyond this shot. Interesting how fast the land around here can change.

I went out to play with my fisheye lens again today. Just having some fun and trying things.

This is the Grant County Courthouse located in Ephrata. I used a 3 shot HDR and, of course, some of my effects to get the look.

I really like the feel of this dwindling road. The old truck that’s for sale makes me feel like if I were to drive up the road I would go back in time.

Road to the past

Continuing my digital fine art project, here is my latest work.  I intend to keep posting these to build a collection that will eventually be available for sale on my site. If you want a copy now, you can contact me.

I actually took this last year in 2007.  It’s a side road off of Highway 12 in Washington that leads to a Mount St. Helen’s lookout.  It was not until this last week that I finally got it finished. Alas, time is a fleeting thing.

I used a new effect I made in Photoshop–and plenty of painstaking editing–to finish with a cross between a painting and a photo. It really shows up well in a large print.  If you want to learn more about how it was done, I’ll post more about that soon on my Seim Effects blog.  Have a wonderful day everyone…

I was about to head into the studio today, when a group of honeybees followed Chuck to the door when he arrived to ask if I shot on Sundays.

I said I could, provided it was early enough so that I could still make the Sunday dinner and Bible study with my family. Chuck said we could do the shoot right away, so I grabbed a camera, and off we went.

It makes me feel good to see these hard working little beauties at work. I love spring. 🙂

This is a shot I took at sunrise overlooking Coulee City, WA.  I like shooting photography that blends the awesome power of nature with man’s technological strides.

High tension power lines always fascinate me.  Think of the sheer size and how many of these steel monsters stretch across the land bringing us energy.  Yet for all the power we can produce, this steel beast still looks small against the amazing power of God’s creation!
