Visual Razor ~ Gavin's free Photoshop action

This was listed in the show notes before, but since it was brought up again on PPS #29 (HDR Part1) I decided to throw it into a post of it’s own.

Visual razor is a simple Photoshop action that works great on single photo’s, or using the batch command. This will likely be included in my up and coming action sets, but now’s your chance to download it for free. It’s a general sharpener/enhancer action that works well on nearly any photo. Apply it before doing other effects to save time by starting out with an image that POPS!

To use it just open Photoshop, and double click on the action file to open it. Then run it on your photo’s by pressing play, or use File/Batch to run the action on a whole folder of images.

There is also Visual Razor Version2. You can get it free at Seim Effects.

  1. Thanks for all your generous help. I have listened to almost every one and will get to those I haven’t made time for soon. I want to commend you for your committment to stay with this podcast. It has helped me in everytime, and your professionalism is catching. I am really excited about HDR and will experiment with that one this week. I have bracketed my shots to get a brilliant sunset and still some detail in the foreground but this was all before Photoshop. I want to have a good one I can send to you. I will leave a good word or two on iTunes. Congratulations on finding and marrying your sweetheart. She sounds like a good fit for you with her interest in photography and all. I wrote you early on, and mentioned that my wife and I have been married over 30 years and both are photographers. We shoot raw tweak them how we want to in Photoshop. I have had CS3 beta, but just ordered the real deal along with Lightroom. I had it shipped Two Day Express, so it may be here tomorrow. It’s great to be making a living with an exciting, fun and creative hobby like photography. Thanks again for all your hard work, and I want you to know that I look forward to podcasts like I would a letter from a sharing friend. (I couldn’t download Razor, I just got the code. Any ideas? I have been putting off actions like something to be feared, but I am going to dive into them like I have other PS “mystery functions” – I have always been excited to learn how cool PS is. Thanks for the encouragement. I could save the code and use it after I get a handle on actions in general. They have got to be super time-savers; so I am off on another discovery adventure on my Mac.

    Kind regards,

    Steve Green

  2. I downloaded the action and have enjoyed using it – I hope you can make available more of your actions in the future – even if there is a fee. I have become an Action junkie as of late.

  3. I use your visual razor II action all the time. I have paid for actions in the past, but there are none as practical and wonderful as this action. Thank you so much.

    1. Thanks Malka. There’s actually some new versions on this action as well. Their not all free, but you can find them in the actions on my seimeffects.com site… Gav

About the Author

Glad you're here.

I'm from WA State USA and started studying photography in 97. I started work as a pro (using that word loosely because I sucked) using film at age 16. I learned fast but was not as easy to find training then. Sometimes I beat my head against the wall until I figured stuff out.

As digital dawned I went all in and got to study with masters like Ken Whitmire. In 09 I founded the Pro Photo Show podcast. I started promoting tone-focused editing. When Lightroom arrived, I started developing tools to make editing and workflow better.

20 years of study and photography around the country earned me a Master of Photography (M.Photog) from PPA. I got to see my workshops and tools featured in publications across the industry. Once I even won the prestigious HotOne award for my "EXposed" light and tone workshop.

Wanting something calmer, I moved to Mexico in 2017. It's a land of magical light. I'm here now exploring light and trying to master my weak areas. I make videos of that for my Youtube channel, sharing what I learn. I hope you'll stick around and be part of Light Hunters Tribe... Gavin
