Well it looks like both Canon and Nikon shooters got their much rumored gear this week! Nikon officially announced their newest DSLR camera bodies the D300 and the D3 today. Here is a quick run down of some of the specs.

D3

D3
body only price of $4999 will be available in November:

  • 12.1-megapixel FX format (full frame) CMOS sensor
  • 3-inch, 190,000-pixel VGA viewfinder with a 170-degree viewing angle and live view
  • 51-point autofocus system with 15 cross-type AF points
  • 200-6400 ISO range. When set to Hi 2 Mode has an ISO equivalent of 25,600. That is just insane (and probably extremely noisy! We’ll have to wait and see.)
  • dual CF cards slots

D300

D300
body only price of $1799 will be available in November:

  • 12.3 megapixel DX format CMOS sensor
  • 3-inch, 190,000-pixel VGA viewfinder with a 170-degree viewing angle and live view
  • HDMI support with 1080i playback
  • 200-3200 ISO range

You can learn more about each of these cameras on Nikon’s Press Center page on their website. Here are the direct links for the D300 and the D3.

wolverine flashpac 7000If you caught the most recent PPS Roundtable (Episode 34) you may remember the gasps I received from my fellow roundtable peers when I mentioned that I was not backing up my digital images immediately after filling a card during a wedding or photo shoot. PPS writer Jarrod mentioned a product from Wolverine that he uses to back up his images. I took his suggestion and have been using mine for about a month now. Here is my review of the unit I purchased.

I purchased the Wolverine 120GB FlashPac 7000, 7-in-1 Portable Data Storage Device & Media Reader. I went with the largest hard drive size, 120GB with the idea of being able to immediately back up an entire season’s worth of weddings and sessions on the spot…

Panel End Marks Sample

Did you know you can totally customize the panel end markers in the new version of Adobe Lightroom 1.1? The updated version now comes with these 13 different markers to choose from. Simply right click or control click on any end panel marker to see your options. So what if none of these fit your style? Create your own! That’s right you can insert your own personal logo or trademark as a panel end marker. How cool is that?

Panel End Marks logo

Here are a couple examples of one of my custom panel end markers. Basically you create a 120 x 120 px at 72 dpi image in Photoshop and save it as a PNG file. You then have to drag the image into the panel end markers folder. Even though you can create and insert snappy colorful graphics, I’ve found that it looks best when they match the rest of the Lightroom interface. To do this simply make your logo black and white and then reduce the opacity to 50% or less.
