Canon is updating it’s Rebel line yet again, replacing the Rebel Xt & Xti with the new Rebel XS (Cmon Canon at least think if a new name already)
Nothing too revolutionary here from the look of it. Don’t get me wrong, this is a nice budget DSLR. I just find myself bored by Canon’s less than amazing upgrades, sound alike names, and behind the curve pace next to Nikon’s amazing low noise, high ISO bodies. This is coming from a Canon shooter folks so lets hope this fall will see some serious upgrades to at least the higher end models.
The XS will sport a larger 2.5-inch screen 10 mp sensor, live view display, 3fps burst shooting, and a DIGIC III. It’s available now in Japan, but not till next month in the US. Should fall in at about 600-700 bucks. More details on Engadget.
Our friends over at the CameraDojo blog have announced an e-seminat that will take place this Fri 1:PM PST talking about tips for Adobe Lightroom 2.

The Orphan Works Act of 2008 will take away the automatic protection that artists now have. Currently in the US if you take a picture, or make a piece of art you automatically own the copyright, and before someone uses of for their own purpose they have to obtain/purchase rights from you.
In essence the new law makes so that to retain copyright, you have to have it registered in a database (yep every image), and if it’s not found in the database the the person who wants to use it, then that work may be freely copied. They will do this by developing huge private certified software databases.
Soooo… every image you have ever created must be registered for you to retain copyright! That’s billions of photographs. Since that will never happen and all those photographers will instantly loose copyright protection.
If this passes, the government becomes steward of copyright, you essentially loose copyright to every image you have ever created, and all past, current and future work comes under the control of government. All it does is make stealing copyright really really easy.
Take Action… You can go to this site for specific details on the bill. You can also email your senators automatically right from the page as well.
Ya I know the D3 is barely on the shelves and into your hot hands and here I am talking about the next rev. This is seriously a RUMOR ONLY so don’t get you Visa out yet.
Not super surprising, but it will be a powerhouse. I think the real question is DO WE NEED 24MP? I mean sure is had it purpose, but how often are we printing that big. I’ve made a beautiful 30×40 from an 8MP file. Printer are going to need to grow to meet the megapixels!
Personally I think the megapixel battle is becoming far less important than the ISO noise battle. What do you say?
