For you Nikon users out there – here’s some news on the D300.

Everytime I turn around, Nikon seems to unveil a semi-pro camera body that has me wanting to tap into my children’s college fund.

The latest is Nikon’s D300, a 12.3-megapixel monster that is very similar to the D3, but with some new features.

One of the most talked about features is the new monitor – bigger, crisper and more life-like. Ken Rockwell has a nice review here.

While the monitor is nice, I am most interested in getting behind the lens and checking out the new 51-point auto focus system. It’s coupled with Nikon’s new 3D Focus Tracking Feature and, as long rumored, a live preview of the image on the LCD screen.

wolverine flashpac 7000If you caught the most recent PPS Roundtable (Episode 34) you may remember the gasps I received from my fellow roundtable peers when I mentioned that I was not backing up my digital images immediately after filling a card during a wedding or photo shoot. PPS writer Jarrod mentioned a product from Wolverine that he uses to back up his images. I took his suggestion and have been using mine for about a month now. Here is my review of the unit I purchased.

I purchased the Wolverine 120GB FlashPac 7000, 7-in-1 Portable Data Storage Device & Media Reader. I went with the largest hard drive size, 120GB with the idea of being able to immediately back up an entire season’s worth of weddings and sessions on the spot…

lightroom title

Well, I went to Scott Kelby’s Lightroom Seminar tour last week and it was great. If you are interested in learning Lightroom you should attend this seminar. Like I said, Scott Kelby is the instructor. He presents the information in a clear, easy to learn point of view. He actually does a live photo shoot then goes into Lightroom and shows you the workflow he uses in Lightroom. You don’t have to bring a computer to attend this seminar, in fact it’s not recommended that you do bring a computer. The course is that easy! Scott also provides each student with a workbook based on the subjects from the day’s seminar. This workbook includes EVERYTHING you will be taught including the tips from the day. So, this means you don’t have to spend time taking notes and hoping you got all the information. It’s already prepared for you. All you have to do is sit back, watch, listen and enjoy.

As an instructor, Scott Kelby is entertaining as well as knowledgeable. He uses his breaks to answer questions from the audience. He gives you an equipment list of everything that he uses during the shoot, and NO he doesn’t get a commission for any of the equipment. I’ve enjoyed seminar’s instructed by Scott in the past and I have to say he only gets better as time goes on. His enthusiasm for Lightroom is contagious and one can’t wait to get back to the studio and start working. When you combine this one day seminar with Scott Kelby’s Lightroom book you will be a professional Lightroom user before you know it.

So the team over at NAPP are scheduling new dates for the Lightroom Seminar so keep your eyes on this website for new dates and times, Photoshop Seminars.
