Update! 08/2010: If you’re using Lightroom 3, these templates will not work correctly. LR3 users need the new layout templates. You can download them here for free.

by Gavin Seim Most of us Lightroom users have heard about print templates. What most don’t know is the super cool trick to use them for simple album page layouts for albums and press printed books. Matt recently posted a video on LR Killer Tips about tweaking template settings to allow multiple images on one layout.

I’ve made a set of print presets that allows you to make some quick square layouts like the one’s below. Great for press printed books and albums. Load em up, select the layout, then select the photo’s you want used. There’s eight in this set and all have about 1/4″ edge space to allow trim room for books. Best of all is their FREE.

LR2 has no way to add a black background itself, so I used this workaround. I’ve included a black file in the download and there’s more details in the help file. Once set up you can turn on “Identity Plate” in the settings and load the black background as desired. A future version of LT should include this feature without a workaround.

Updated 10.10.09 to version 2.5 sampler (download below).

My free sampler of Power Workflow2 Lightroom Presets is  here. This has a small assortment of what comes with the complete set, but there’s some great presets here.

A key with presets is to build a good workflow. I spend a lot of time with that, and you’ll see some of it here. Start with a good auto preset for batches. This free set includes a preset from my new “Super” series auto settings. Apply it to a whole batch to get rockin, then move on and try some other effects.

There’s also a coupon inside that will save you a few bucks if you decide to get the whole set. If you already have PW2 you already have these, but stay tune because Christmas is near and I have some goodies in store 🙂

A few months back I posted a sample pack of my Creative Essentials actions. It tuned out that the download somehow ended up with some of my sample LR presets inside, instead of the PS action.

Hundreds of you download this set, and got the wrong thing. I just found out minutes ago thanks to a comment from Tanis. I feel pretty silly.

Anyways here is the original post that’s been updated with the new file. Enjoy, Gav

~ Download Gavin’s Brush Presets ~

UPDATE: These brushes no longer work properly in LR4. If you use LR2-3 download the brushes above. If you use LR4 get my new brushes.

Did you know that in Lightroom2 You can use a brush to make precise corrections, and even have brush presets ready to go to make those corrections easy.

Well I knew about LR  brushes, but I had not given enough attention to them until Matt Kloskowski posted up some darken brushes, and got my mind churning on this great workflow asset.

Here’s a collection of brush presets I made for… Burn, Dodge, Color Boost, Color Drain, Skin Soft, and Detail Boost.

Remember that these don’t work the same as my Develop presets. These are for “Brush” settings. If you need to learn how to install them take a look at my Installing Lightroom Brush Presets article.

Once you get them installed you can just select the brush effect that you want, from the drop-down. Brush size and intensity are still fully controllable with the sliders, but these preset will get you going fast.

Hey gang. Here’s a small set of actions I made to help watermark photo’s. If your in SE fan club on Facebook you got these a few weeks ago. but I wanted to post them up here for the blog readers. Nothing huge here. These just take a logo, or type and make it have that transparent bevel look of a watermark.

You can also modify them to speed things up. For example you could record a command at the beginning of the action to place your logo at the start, and then save and close at the end so that you could automate the watermarking. You can add commands to an action like this by simply selecting the action and pressing record. Then re-save the action when your done modding it.

Also if you use LR check out Mogrify. It’s a great plugin. Make you overlay in PS, then use the LR Mogrify plugin to overlay it on export. It’s how I do my batches.

UPDATE: 09.09 to V1.1. Added a new glassy effect action (see sample below).
